THE BACK PANEL: From Left to Right
12VDC: center positive, .75A minimum current. Use of the supplied power supply is recommended. This unit is EARTHED through the ground pin of the IEC AC cable. The coaxial connector has a thread-locking ring that will prevent mistaken pullouts. This unit may be operated with a 12-volt battery for remote or mobile use. Contact Valvotronics about this.
SWITCH 6: 48 volts on/off for phantom power to the mic input connector. It is advised to mute your console’s input when switching 48 volts on or off.
SWITCH 7: GL, or ground lift. Factory default configures this to be pin 1 of the line output XLR, on, connected to the unit’s ground (and “earth”), or, off, i.e., ground lifted. Can be internally changed to ground lift the DI/mic output, or, both connectors simultaneously.
LINE OUT: balanced/unbalanced line level 50-ohm pin 2 hot output of any input. Is on concurrent with DI/mic OUT.
LINE IN: 10K ohm balanced/unbalanced input, pin 2 hot. There is a reasonably wide range of things that might be input here.
DI/mic out: mic level output that is operational at the same time as the line out. 150 ohm balanced signal, a relatively “hot” signal that makes it easy to get great S/N using another preamp following this unit.
Mic in: accepts any microphone. 600 ohm transformer balanced input, 48 volts available on a switch (#6 above) via 0.1% accuracy resistors.
NOTES
- All the inputs go through the special tube circuit inside.
- The tube operates at high voltage. Please attempt no service inside this unit.
- All inputs are capable of using the filter switches.
